A Study Of The Antimicrobial Susceptibility Pattern Of Neisseria Gonorrhoeae
نویسنده
چکیده
Background and objectives: Rapidly emerging antimicrobial resistance of Neisseria gonorrhoeae isolates to currently recommended antibiotics is a setback for effective treatment and control of disease. This study was carried out to determine the antimicrobial susceptibility profile in the isolates obtained from female sexual workers and male patients attending STI clinics in Hyderabad. Materials and methods: Isolates were tested for sensitivity pattern of penicillin, tetracycline, ciprofloxacin azithromycin, cefixime and spectinomycin. Minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and zones of inhibition were interpreted according to CLSI guidelines. β lactamase production was detected by chromogenic cephalosporin method using nitrocefin disc. Results and conclusion: 20 isolates of Neisseria gonorrhea were identified and tested for antimicrobial susceptibility profile. Of them 35%, 35%, 20%, 45% and 5% were resistant to penicillin, tetracycline, ciprofloxacin, azithromycin and cefixime respectively. 30% of isolates were penicillinase-producing N. gonorrhoeae. More of less susceptible strains to these antibiotics were identified. Emergence of less susceptible (10%) and resistant strains (5%) to cefixime, which is the current drug of choice, is a cause of concern. Thus periodic surveillance of susceptibility levels of N. gonorrhoeae is essential to prevent the dissemination of drug resistant strains in the community.

Monitoring Antimicrobial Susceptibility of Neisseria gonorrhoeae Isolated from Bangladesh during 1997-2006: Emergence and Pattern of Drug-resistant Isolates
Gonorrhoea is one of the most common sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in developing countries, and the emergence of resistance to antimicrobial agents in Neisseria gonorrhoeae is a major obstacle in the control of gonorrhoea. Periodical monitoring of antimicrobial susceptibility of N. gonorrhoeae is essential for the early detection of emergence of drug resistance. In total, 1,767 gonococ...

متن کاملIn Vitro Susceptibility to Closthioamide among Clinical and Reference Strains of Neisseria gonorrhoeae
Neisseria gonorrhoeae is one of the leading antimicrobial resistance threats worldwide. This study determined the MICs of closthioamide to be 0.008 to 0.5 mg/liter for clinical N. gonorrhoeae strains and related species. Cross-resistance with existing antimicrobial resistance was not detected, indicating that closthioamide could be used to treat drug-resistant N. gonorrhoeae.

BACKGROUND Antimicrobial resistance of Neisseria gonorrhoeae is a serious health problem in China. Gonococcal antimicrobial susceptibility has been monitored in Shanghai since 1988. In this study, we examined the changing pattern of gonococcal antimicrobial susceptibility based on data from N. gonorrhoeae isolates collected over the past 25 years. METHODS Approximately 100-200 isolates each y...

Bacterial vaginosis or non-specific vaginitis describes the disease caused by a change in the normal Flora of the vagina, which leads to the elimination of Lactobacilli, generating hydrogen peroxide and excess growth of bacteria, particularly anaerobic bacteria. This disease is the most prevalent infection of the female genital tract, and the rate of frequency of anaerobic bacteria, specificall...
